Social Bookmarking / Social News: What does it have to do with online money?

The answer for the question in the title is simple: Traffic. If you want to make decent money online, then you need a decent traffic. Period. And, if your web content is submitted there, social bookmarking and social news sites can help you to generate traffic.

Of course, it is not the only thing. You also need a good marketing strategy, good content, onpage SEO, good links (quantity and quality), etc, etc. But, if you are enough clever to socialize with other users in order to promote your content, then social sites will allow you to build not only traffic but also reputation. In my experience, three sites are the best options for general topics: StumbleUpon, Digg and Propeller. But there are a lot of social sites about specific topics out there. Here a quick summary for StumbleUpon, Digg and Propeller and a list of other social sites that you should check out:

Social Bookmarking StumbleUponStumbleUpon: In this social site (or by using its browser toolbar) you can browse a lot of pages on Internet. Users can submit web content in order to be rated by other users. Many people claim to get a lot of traffic from StumbleUpon and, actually, I have to say that this is the best social site for traffic in my case.

Social Bookmarking DiggDigg: It is the most popular social news website. Several topics are covered including politics, entertainment, technology and general news. Even, you can submit videos and images. An additional advantage of Digg, at least so far, is the opportunity to rank high for several phrases in search engines with a Digg page linking to your site, just in case your site don’t have enough visibility yet.

Social Bookmarking PropellerPropeller: Very similar to Digg but less popular. It has a broader list of topics.

Other social sites: Maki made a complete list of multiple social sites on the DoshDosh blog. Here is the link:http://www.doshdosh.com/list-of-social-media-news-websites/
