Adsense - Tip #1: have a nice website

Adsense - Tip #1: have a nice websiteA lot of people think that to have success with Adsense we must find a magic formula. A secret formula that somebody will try to sell to the incautious people. Sometimes in Internet you will find ads of courses or books talking about that magic to increase the Adsense’s check. And incredibly, always there are customers for those ads.

But, as almost everything in life, the common sense is more effective than any secret formula. Sometimes, the common sense is despised because, for any reason into our mind, we imagine the success like a complicated thing. The reality: if we applied the common sense to get success with Adsense, we should dedicate enough time to do the changes in our website, having analytics tools and mainly being very very perseverant, knowing that we always won’t be ascending in the life and sometimes will must adjust the stuffs in the site.

The simple thing is: if you want to have profits with Adsense, then you must have visitors. And to have real visitors and not simple “sniffers” that only remain in the page during 5 seconds and then go out by pointing the browser to a better site, we must have a great website. A great website combine all these elements: a good graphic design (and sometimes in that sense: the simplest is the best), original content that is useful for the users, an easy way to browse and a main topic that is really interesting for the target audience.

Besides of that, the technical stuffs must be fixed: check periodically that your HTML don’t have issues in the most used browsers (Internet Explorer 6.0/7.0, Firefox), make sure that people can get any internal page in a easy way and with a few clicks (not more than 3), check the outgoing links and take out them immediately if they are broken: the broken links will affect your popularity in any automatic system that scan your page (search engine robots, feed readers, etc).

And of course, keep in mind that today the sites with community sense can act much better than the informative sites with little interaction of the user. To that it refers the concept of Web 2.0: for users the web is not only about reading (capture the information from the Internet) but about reading and writing (to capture and generate information) and surely in the short future it will be about reading, writing and executing web platforms more complex.

But in the present it is important that your site have any level of interaction: maybe a blog where people can put the comments, or a forum where there are debates by topic, or a “wiki” system where the user can generate and edit the content, or at least a simple poll. Maybe, these interactive systems are not very useful if your site have little traffic but when it increases the visits, then you will see the multiplier effect into a community behind your website.

Think of your website as a service. And in this way, you should try to have the best service for your customers: the visitors, although most of them don’t pay you a nickel. So you should not leave an email coming from your “Contact Us” section without reply. And it is not necessary to say that you must have a contact form or public email. If your INBOX begins to be saturated, find the way to treat this situation: a simple autoresponder or a system of frequent questions (FAQs) could be useful in some cases and those are very easy for implementing.

To win with Adsense, you must attract the people. Then, you should publish attractive things. And in fact, the attractive things are not the common things that every site publish. Your content must have something special: a differentiating element.

Neither forget that some people are not so comfortable in the computer screen as when they are in front a book: don’t seek that everyone read long epistles of text in your website. Be concise: if you are concise, then your Adsense’s ads will be sighted more easily that if you write many paragraphs explaining an idea.

Oh, and remember that a great website is not the most innovative in the world, necessarily. Always, people is getting used to see certain things in Internet and sometimes they are overburdened with a site trying to be very innovative by doing the simple things in a different way. That is good for other circumstances but maybe not for a site seeking to make a lot of money with Adsense. Although, it could have exceptions.
