Adsense - Tip #3: You must be concentrated in some high paying keywords
Although the visits to your website are maybe the most important thing in what refers to generate revenues with Google Adsense, the optimum results are not always obtained in a site with high traffic due to restrictions of the contents.
What does that mean? It means that, in addition to a great traffic, it is important to have appropriate contents if you have a great interest on making money with Adsense.
Let us remember how Adsense works: The system bring ads according to the contents in a specific page (contextual advertisement) and it is supposed that, in this way, some relevant ads related to the topic of interest (the topic of the page) will be showed to the visitors. It is like to put sections to complement what we write in the website.
Also, let’s remember where these ads come from: Google have an advertisement system called Google Adwords where the advertisers pay every time that somebody click on theirs ads. However, this amount of money depends of the competition in the specific topic where the advertiser wants to advertise and also depends of the maximum amount that he can pay. If the advertiser pays more money, probably the ad be showed in a good position. However, if the topic don’t have many advertisers competing for this, the advertiser can pay a little and anyway his ad will be showed in a good position.
Those ads are showed every time that we look for something in Google by positioning them in the top of the search results and the right rail. These ads are labeled as “Sponsored Links”. But, also the ads can be showed in the webpages with Google Adsense ads. In the last case, a portion of the advertiser payment will be paid to the owner of the Adsense account who put the ads in his website.
Therefore, the amount paid to us depends, among other factors, of the amount that the advertiser is paying. And from this we can conclude that we need to have in our website some ads about topics with many advertisers competing for that, because in this way it is more probable that the advertiser must pay more money and we can make more money per click in our Adsense ads.
But, how do we attract ads with a great level of competition in order to receive more money? Although we can not control the Adsense program directly, we can control the contents in our websites. Therefore, our contents must be focused on keywords that can attract the high paying ads. For instance, if we have a blog, the title of the blog, the titles of the posts and the body of the posts should use these keywords and also the main topic of each page must be related to these high paying keywords.
That does not mean that we must change our writing style or the main topic in our blog, but it is always necessary to keep in mind that you will not earn the same money by writing a personal blog where you narrate your life than having a blog or website related to technology that will bring ads with a lot of competition (high paying). It is up to you and your priorities. The certain thing is that if you want to optimize your Adsense revenue, then you also must optimize your content in order to attract the right ads. However, maybe the main topic of your website is actually very competitive in what refers to the online advertisers (Adwords) and the optimization for Adsense can be done in a easy way.
In this point we can wonder how we can know the keywords that must be kept in mind when our content is put in the website. Although it is possible to find many online resources that talk about lists of high paying keywords, we recommend the most direct method and from the principal source: The Google Keyword Tool.
Go to: https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal and please (don’t forget!) put the language of your website and country (you can put “All countries and Territories” if your target is global). Then, select the tab “Site-Related Keywords”. There you can write your webpage URL to find keywords related to the content on the pages. Check the box “Include other pages on my site linked from this URL” in order to include the whole site. After that, Choose “Keywords Search Volume” as data to display and finally click on “Get Keywords”.
The keywords related to your site (grouped by similarity) will be listed after a few seconds. Then you must click on the column “Advertiser Competition”, and each group will be sorted in a descendent list (more to less). Graphically, a horizontal bar will be showed for each keyword in order to know the approximated competition level. Therefore, if the whole bar is colored or almost the whole bar is colored, we can consider those as high paying keywords. You must focus your contents in those keywords mainly but you must not neglect to the parameter labeled as “Search Volume for last month”. It is showed, too. This is because the keywords must have a high level of competition but also they must be queried by the people in the search engines to generate traffic to your site. It is very important to maintain a balance between the search engine optimization and the optimization for Adsense. That could be a difficult task. Luckily, almost all the competitive keywords have a good Search volume. Good Luck!
