PubMatic: make automatic decisions to earn more money on online advertising

Pubmatic is an interesting tool to optimize the advertising on our blogs or websites (if we are publishers). Basically, it works in three ways:

* Optimizing your ad inventory across leading ad networks such as Google Adsense, ValueClick and Advertising.com. You configure ads from several networks for a specific ad space on your website and PubMatic runs them, verifying over time which ad network is the most profitable for this space. When the trial period is over (50,000 - 70,000 impressions), then PubMatic sets the most profitable network as the selected option for the specific space.

* Optimizing your ad layout automatically to maximize click-troughts. Pubmatic tries several appearance configurations (or colors) and, again, when the trial period is over, it will choose the most profitable layout for each ad space on your website.

* Manage ad networks through one interface. Use one set of tags and get consolidated revenue reports instantly. Although Pubmatic works automatically, you can make best decisions for your personal or corporate benefit by using these consolidated reports that take data from all your ad networks.

You can see a PubMatic Tour on the video.

Note: By the way, Pubmatic has a contest or “PubMatic Publisher Challenge” where you can win free advertising for your site. The advertising is placed on several Web 2.0 websites and Pubmatic selects a winner every month.

WidgetBucks: Ads Suck, ours don’t

WidgetBucks: Ads Suck, ours don'tSome few months ago, Mpire Corporation launched another option to monetize websites: WidgetBucks. WidgetBucks features pay-per-click shopping widgets that help the bloggers and website owners make money fast. A widget is a small interactive program that show information related to a specific topic or category. You earn money each time someone clicks on a WidgetBucks ad widget on your site, also called pay-per-click, or PPC. You can also earn money by referring people to WidgetBucks.

This could be a complement or, actually, an alternative to Google Adsense. Mpire claims that these widgets see $3-$6 CPM (cost per thousand impressions) which is very good and maybe better than the average ad networks that deliver less than $2 CPM.

The widgets are really attractive and if the widgets inventory contains specific ads that match your content, your website could look enough nice with these new ads. If you want to test these new ads network, please keep in mind that if you use Google Adsense already, you must use the widgets ads in a non-contextual mode (i.e. by category) in order to be OK with the Adsense TOS.
