Fark.com: making money with news that are not news
As some people say, I also think we are in the second bubble of the Web. But,
different to the bubble in the 90’s, the Internet is now more mature and more stable. So, this bubble is not very irrational as in that time. And the concept of Web 2.0 seems the main principle for this new wave.
Web 2.0 refers to quality content generated by users. News, videos, RSS and ATOM feeds, social networking, blogs directories and everything about content generated by people who are not the owners of the websites, necessarily.
And websites with this feature have a big opportunity now of making money by ads or subscriptions. Or maybe a big player could be interested in them (YouTube or Facebook are instances).
Fark.com is an example of a “small” player that is hitting a record right away: 1.5 million page views a day based in a model of content made up of news that are not news and those are sent by users and correspondents (Drew Curtis is running the site as a full-time job). More like making money by ruining what people liked about the site in the first place for the sake of advertisers.
Screw Fark. Go to banniNation.com instead.

There are some power-mad mods at Fark. I’ve been given time-outs for trivial stuff.
I’m now a bNette.
